The Park in the Night

Part One

The Beginning of GWSN

There is a quaint park in our neighborhood.

It is a place where village neighbours come to ponder life. In this park stands a tall tree. At some point, small strips of paper with the neighbors dreams, wishes, confessions, and struggles started to appear on the three. One day, an ambiguous yet seemingly meaningful paper strip is hung.

“We may seem trivial and insignificant, but each one of us possesses a unique strength. My distinctive unique strength is…”

The day after the meaningful paper strip is hung, a new one appears. “Let us meet here on the fifth day of September.”Among the neighbors, seven of them who took particular interest in this message met together on that September fifth date, leading to the natural formation of GWSN. These girls began to regularly share not only the paper strips but their own dreams, wishes struggles and hopes —forming priceless. and cherished friendships. The friends gathered under the tree are not aware of the writer nor the reason behind the meaningful paper strip.

Upon the creation of GWSN, the everyday thoughts and struggles of the neighbors continued to be placed on the tree. However, the ambiguous yet meaningful paper strips no longer appear. Then, one day a newly hung paper strip reads,

“GWSN. Please come find me. I will then gift you with a new strength.”

The album contains three mini books

Illusion and Deception

Inspiration, Faith and Blessing

It represents the universe coming together and agreeing with your path, and aiding forward movement in something greater.

It often suggests a time when something is not as it appears to be. Perhaps a misunderstanding on your part, or a truth you cannot admit to yourself.

It brings renewed hope and faith and a sense that you are truly blessed by the universe at this time.

Puzzle Moon

Puzzle Moon details the beginning adventures of GWSN, specifically on the appearance of the unknown paper strip that answers the concerns of the neighbors. This paper strip from a mysterious writer marks the beginning of the Puzzle Moon, as the girls are attempting to piece together who and why this is occurring.

Puzzle Moon looks at the ways in which the girls feel incomplete, and try to feel whole and more like themselves through this journey and find friendship within each other. In the video, the girls are seen with each other, and as noted in the story itself, the girls befriended each other to form GWSN. Once the girls are together, the Puzzle Moon is now complete, implying that the girls were the missing pieces to the puzzle — and only then is the next phase is ready.

Part Two

GWSN's Journey

If you possess a unique strength, it must be used for good.

The girls carry out the instructions of How to Attain a Skill in GWSN, four different beams of light streams through the park and the girls come to. They find each of their unique items glowing and they come to believe that they now possess a strength, unique to each girl.

Little by little, the girls begin testing out their newly gifted abilities. It is refreshingly light and fun since the magic is mild in nature, geared towards helping others.

One day, the school held a carnival. GWSN opens a secret booth there. There next to their booth is a small tree which the girls of GWSN name Groo. A note telling people, “on the 13th day of December, please hang your wishes and dreams written on paper strips onto Groo. One never knows when their wishes will come true.” Not long after the girls hun the sign on Groo, wishes and dreams both big and small started to appear. From a wish for a date with a crush, to a cold to go away before a big exam, a trip around the world with good friends and the list goes on. The girls start to use their newly gifted strengths to make unimaginable things happen for some.

On another day, GWSN met back at the small park in their neighborhood. They began to recount the various ways their unique strengths have helped wishes of others come true and celebrate.

The girls each share their strengths one by one and reopen the GWSN book they discovered at the library. In it, they discover the final page of the book and the writings on it.

“Upon succeeding with grand magic, rather than getting what you wish, you can lose all the strengths you currently possess.”

We may be someone greater than we think we are.

GWSN became conflicted. Would there be something we so greatly desire so much, that we would give up all else? Ifso, what would that be? One thing that we would trade everything to possess? Upon deciding to ponder on their own, the girls who plan on coming on the Fourth of September find a paper strip on the tree in the center of the park. “Let us meet together on March 13th at this tree.”

It is decided to collect their thoughts on their most precious possessions and return together on the 13th of March. Items, situations, people all encountered in everyday life… “Are these the most prized possessions in my life?” Pondering what it is that they desire most in life, days are passed while photographs, drawings and writings are collected.

On March 13th, the girls reconvene at the park and discuss all that they think is precious to them. They conclude that until they can decide on their most desired possession, they will seal their unique strength in the meantime. The symbol of this seal will be the items that glowed for each of the girls: a keychain for Miya, for Minju a diary, a lip tint for Soso, Seokyoung a hairpin, Seoryoung’s patch, a handheld mirror for Anne and a bracelet for Lena…

This album contains two chapters and a folio

Doors of Perception

The Folio

The Folio of GWSN has one page for member, mimicking an actual folio. A folio is "an individual leaf of paper or parchment, numbered on the recto or front side only, occurring either loose as one of a series or forming part of a bound volume." And so it is implied that there is more information to be found, and that this is a part of the series — indicating that this is indeed the second chapter, and the third chapter will reveal more.

Each items are as followed [left to right]:
Keychain for Miya, a patch for Seoryoung, a lip tint for Soso, a diary for Minju, a hairpin for Seokyoung, a bracelet for Lena and a handheld mirror for Anne.

Part Three

GWSN's Magic

So the girls decide to search once again for another gift or talent that may lie within themselves. With “surely we don’t each carry just one single talent!” as their mantra they ask themselves, ‘what do I excel in? What am I capable of doing?’

What talent should we foster? What shall we accomplish together? The entire day is spent discussing whatever we do, whoever we become and in any case how we find it of utmost importance to discover and grow our unique giftedness.

In society the elders say, “each of you carry a tremendous gift or talent hidden within..” however how useful is a talent that cannot be accessed immediately? Wouldn’t life be more enjoyable if we live with joy each day and in every moment? For what reason are we enduring the mundane?

The girls discuss and decide. “What we wish for is the most for the members of GWSN, to be together forever.” As long as they are together, whether it be discovering new talents or any other matter, journeying through the unknown of life would not be a daunting task.” Once the magic appears no one knows what will come of it so they take a group photo to commemorate the occasion. And then the magic begins…

With their talent sealed away the excitement naturally dwindles. Upon putting aside all of the splendor of using magic, the girls return to ordinary and somewhat peaceful lives…

The girls conclude, “We have come to discover new gifts and talents while our initial findings were sealed away. Thus, we no longer have to be afraid of losing anything. Even if all were to be lost, wouldn’t it be that we would start anew?”

In the process, they collect ‘precious goods’in a diary like online channel, GWSN. The channel becomes well known among their peers and the girls sharing about what is important to them catches on worldwide. IT arrives to be a safe place where many young people, who don’t even know each other’s faces, come to share openly about each of their journeys.
